Awards and Recognition

Hockey Tasmania values the significant contribution of all its volunteers and thanks them for their ongoing efforts to support our sport in Tasmania. Hockey Tasmania recognises the contribution of volunteers to our sport through the following awards.

 


 

 

The Award of Life Membership to Hockey Tasmania Inc. is to be made to acknowledge long and meritorious achievement and/or contributions at the highest levels of the sport of hockey in Tasmania or more broadly.

Life Membership Criteria

It is to be awarded to a person who fulfils one or more of the following criteria:

  • Is, or has been, a member of the Board or Council of Hockey Tasmania or of the Council of the Tasmanian Hockey Association or Tasmanian Women's Hockey Association;
  • Has coached Tasmanian teams;
  • Has been a manager of Tasmanian teams;
  • Has, as a player, official or administrator, represented Tasmania with distinction;
  • Has, as a player, official or administrator, represented Australia with distinction;
  • Has otherwise represented Hockey Tasmania Inc., at a National Level, by way of membership of a national board, committee etc.

 

Nomination Process

  • Nomination for Life Membership may be made by an individual member or by a member Club of Hockey Tasmania Inc to Hockey Tasmania for its consideration.
  • Nominations for Life Membership can be made at any time during the year, but a formal call for nominations will be made by Hockey Tasmania annually prior to the Annual General Meeting and announced at that meeting.
  • A nomination shall be accompanied by a synopsis showing the candidate’s achievements and involvement upon which it is considered Life Membership is warranted.
  • Hockey Tasmania shall review the nomination and by consensus, determine whether the nomination fulfils the criteria outlined above.
  • Nominations deemed to meet the requirements for the awarding Life Membership will be passed to the Hockey Tasmania Board for endorsement.
  • Ratification of Life Membership shall be by vote of the Association membership at the Annual General Meeting. This meeting is usually held in May of each year.
  • Upon the granting of Life Membership, the Board shall circulate to all members the fact of the award, together with a summary of the contribution by the person on which it has been conferred.
  • This award is made in line with the Hockey Tasmania by-laws.

It is to be awarded to a person who has delivered meritorious personal service to Hockey Tasmania Inc. or, for some other reason, are considered deserving of special recognition.

Nomination Process

  • Nominations for an Award of Merit may be made by an individual member or member Club to Hockey Tasmania for its consideration.
  • Nominations for an Award of Merit can be made at any time during the year, but a formal call for nominations will be made by Hockey Tasmania twice a year in April and September each year.
  • Nominations shall be accompanied by a synopsis showing the candidate’s achievements and involvement upon which it is considered an Award of Merit is warranted.
  • Upon the granting of an Award of Merit the Board shall circulate to all members the fact of the award, together with a summary of the contribution by the person on which it has been conferred.
  • This award is made in line with the Hockey Tasmania by-laws.

Volunteer of the Year Award Criteria

The Hockey Tasmania Volunteer of the Year Award is awarded to someone who has given exemplary voluntary service to the sport of hockey in general, or someone who has given exemplary voluntary service to events and competitions organised by Hockey Tasmania, in Tasmania in the given calendar year. Any voluntary role is suitable for nomination. They can be a coordinator, committee convenor or member, event volunteer, umpire, technical official, state team coach or manager, club administrator, coach, president, sponsor, webmaster, manager, or a fundraising coordinator (any voluntary role).

 

Nomination Process

  • Nominations are called upon each year in November and will be accepted from any member of the Hockey Tasmania community, but the winner will be chosen by the sub-committee from the pool of nominees. A sub-committee comprised of three HT board members (one from each region) and the CEO will review all nominations and make the final decision. Their choice will be formally recognised as the Hockey Tasmania Volunteer of the Year during the official ceremony and be awarded a perpetual trophy.
  • Nominees must be at least 16 (sixteen) years old and not the same person as the nominator.
  • Upon the granting of the Volunteer of the Year Award the Board shall circulate to all members the fact of the award, together with a summary of the contribution by the person on which it has been conferred.
  • Current employees of Hockey Tasmania are ineligible for nomination. Current Hockey Tasmania board members, or former board members who have left the role inside the calendar year of 2022, are ineligible for nomination.
