Hockey Tasmania has released its refreshed Organisational Strategic Plan, setting out five key priorities to guide the continued growth and development of hockey across the state.
Launched alongside a new Values Statement, the plan outlines Hockey Tasmania’s priorities for the sport, supported by a shared commitment to how the hockey community works together.
Hockey Tasmania Chair Paul Bloomfield said the refreshed strategy builds on the achievements of recent years while responding to the changing needs of the sport.
“Our past Strategic Plan has served Hockey Tasmania well, providing a strong foundation for the growth and development of hockey across the state. However, our sport and operating environment have continued to evolve, and it is important that our strategy evolves with them,” Bloomfield said.
“Over the past 12 months, the Board and Hockey Tasmania team have worked diligently with our hockey community, Hockey Australia, Sport Integrity Australia and other stakeholders to review, refresh and strengthen our strategic direction for the years ahead.
“The result is a forward-looking strategy that reflects where hockey is today, the opportunities ahead of us, and our ambition for the future of hockey in Tasmania.
“Importantly, the strategy identifies clear priorities that will drive improvements across key areas of our sport.”
The plan sets out five strategic priorities:
- Enhance our development pathways: Establish clear pathways for playing and non-playing roles, from grassroots to high performance, supported by consistent policies and processes.
- Ensure effective governance and sustainability: Apply contemporary governance practices and strengthen financial planning to support the sport’s long-term future.
- Build our infrastructure: Develop a Statewide Infrastructure Strategy to guide investment in sustainable, fit-for-purpose facilities.
- Increase our participation: Make hockey accessible, affordable and attractive across all life stages, with a focus on participation and retention.
- Support our community and partnerships: Create welcoming, inclusive and safe hockey environments that reflect the organisation’s values.
Bloomfield outlined how Hockey Tasmania will put these priorities into action.
“We will strengthen our athlete development pathways, building on the work already underway by the State Pathways Review Team, to ensure our pathways are supported by robust policies, procedures and development opportunities.
“Our Board will continue to focus on contemporary governance and financial sustainability, ensuring Hockey Tasmania is well positioned to support the sport now and into the future.
“We will also develop a Statewide Infrastructure Strategy to provide a clear framework for infrastructure priorities and to support our ongoing funding and grant strategies.”
Growing club participation is another key opportunity, particularly through stronger connections with Hookin2Hockey and school programs.
“Our hockey community has done an outstanding job growing and supporting Hookin2Hockey and the schools programme, introducing more young Tasmanians to our sport. Our next opportunity is to build on that success by creating stronger connections between these programmes and our clubs, helping convert those early experiences into long-term participation and club membership,” Bloomfield said.
“Importantly, this strategy builds on a strong platform of achievement. Over recent years, we have seen significant progress across our sport, and we should recognise and build on that momentum as we look ahead.”
Hockey Tasmania’s new Values Statement centres on four core values: Inclusive, Respectful, Integrity and Safe.
Supporting behaviours outline how these values should be demonstrated throughout the sport, including welcoming people of all backgrounds and abilities, listening to members, making fair and transparent decisions, recognising volunteers, and protecting the physical and emotional wellbeing of everyone involved.
“Alongside our new Strategic Plan, the Board, working with our members, is proud to launch Hockey Tasmania’s values and the behaviours that support them,” Bloomfield said.
“These values are more than words. They describe how we aspire to work together, how we treat one another, and the standards we expect of ourselves as an organisation and as a hockey community.
“We are committed to living these values and hold ourselves accountable, and we encourage everyone across our hockey community to support one another in doing the same.
“Our strategy sets our direction; our values and behaviours define how we will travel that journey together.”
