Hockey Tasmania is pleased to announce it has secured funding through the Tasmanian Government's 2025-26 Her Path to Play Program to deliver the Her Hockey Festival: Play, Lead, Inspire initiative.
The funding will support the delivery of two Her Hockey Festivals between 2026 and 2027, with events planned for Tasmania's South and North-West regions. The festivals will provide inclusive opportunities for women and girls of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels to participate in hockey, develop leadership skills and build connections within the sport.
The festivals will feature skill development activities, modified game formats, leadership workshops, wellbeing sessions, social activities and access to hockey equipment. Additional initiatives, including childcare services and dedicated community wellbeing spaces, will help reduce barriers to participation and ensure the events are welcoming and accessible.
The project aligns with the Tasmanian Government's She moves. She leads. She belongs. strategy and aims to increase participation and retention among key groups, including teenage girls, women aged over 50, those living in regional communities, culturally diverse women and girls, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In a letter confirming the successful application, Minister for Sport Nick Duigan congratulated Hockey Tasmania and highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for women and girls to participate in sport and active recreation.
"The Tasmanian Government is committed to reducing barriers and increasing opportunities for all women and girls in Tasmania to participate in sport and active recreation in a safe, inclusive and fun way," Minister Duigan said.
Further details regarding festival dates, locations and registration information will be announced by Hockey Tasmania in the coming months.
