Hockeyroo Pin #190 Presented to Joanne Aschman at Special Ceremony
Published Tue 02 Jun 2026
A special ceremony and morning tea was held last Friday at Queen Victoria Home to officially present former Hockeyroo Joanne Aschman with Hockeyroo Pin #190.
Hockey Australia has commissioned commemorative pins for all former Hockeyroos, recognising their contribution to the national team and their place in the proud history of Australian women’s hockey. Earlier this year, a presentation ceremony was conducted at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre during the FIH Pro League series.
While Joanne was included in that presentation, her invitation arrived at short notice. Unfortunately, Hockey Australia did not have her personalised pin available at the time, and members of her family were unable to attend.
As Hockeyroo pins can only be presented by another former Hockeyroo, fellow Tasmanian Hockeyroos Jennie Kay and Jill Mann were honoured to present Hockeyroo Pin #190 to Joanne during Friday’s ceremony.
During the event, Joanne reflected warmly on her international hockey career, speaking about the incredible opportunities the sport had provided, the lifelong memories she had created, and the lasting friendships and connections she had made throughout her journey.
The presentation was a fitting recognition of Joanne’s contribution to Australian hockey and an opportunity for family, friends, and members of the hockey community to celebrate her achievements.
A special thank you goes to Alison Monk for coordinating and bringing together this memorable occasion.
