Premier League Round 13 Review
Published Sun 05 Jul 2026
OHA produced one of their best performances of the season to defeat defending premiers DiamondBacks 3-0 in their huge round 13 clash and leapfrog them into second place on the Women's Premier League ladder.
The Ships made the perfect start, with a superb pass from Taylor Brooks releasing Julia Gunn, who finished clinically to open the scoring. Gunn then added her second later in the opening term, tapping home from close range after a storming run down the right from April Sargent had drawn a save from the keeper. Ruby Bayley extended the advantage with a third-quarter strike as she ran onto a deflected ball in the circle, and OHA comfortably held on to record an impressive 3-0 victory.
North West Graduates remain on top of the ladder after eventually overcoming a determined Derwent outfit 7-1. Having claimed two comprehensive wins in their previous meetings, this contest was far tighter for much of the afternoon. Ashleigh Arthur gave NWG a 2-0 lead with a first-half brace before Jessie Pankiw pulled one back for Derwent, leaving the margin at just one goal heading into the final quarter.
The ladder leaders then shifted through the gears, exploding for five goals in the final nine minutes. Jemma Kenworthy completed a late hat-trick, Isabella Kruiminck produced a stunning finish, and Beth Dobbie also found the scoresheet to seal a commanding 7-1 victory.
University made it back-to-back victories to remain clear at the top of the Men's Premier League, cruising to a 6-0 win over Canterbury.
Tyson Johnson struck twice in the opening quarter, either side of a Ben Read penalty corner, to give the defending premiers a commanding 3-0 lead at the first break. Oscar Sproule then continued his remarkable goalscoring form, netting another hat-trick, his sixth in his last seven matches, as University powered away to a comprehensive seven-goal victory.
In the day's final match, DiamondBacks responded to last week's defeat with a convincing 4-1 win over OHA.
Luke Palmer opened the scoring before penalty corner specialist Tyler McDonald showcased his drag-flick ability with two goals. Ollie Smith pulled one back for the Ships, but Noah Thomas sealed the result with a superb chipped finish as DiamondBacks ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.
There were just four Premier League matches played this weekend, with the Women's clash between University and Canterbury, and the Men's fixture between North West Graduates and Derwent, postponed until later in the season due to player availability during the National Under 18 Championships. OHA and Derwent will meet on Thursday night in a catch-up game from their previously postponed Men's encounter.
