Bulldogs Take Control of Minor Premiership Race
North West Graduates took a major step towards securing the Women’s Premier League minor premiership with an emphatic 4-0 victory over OHA in the match of the round.
Only one point separated the sides entering the contest and they had previously played out three tight encounters, but the Bulldogs produced a commanding performance to move four points clear of OHA and retain top spot heading into the final weekend with Beth Dobbie scoring twice in the victory.
DiamondBacks took full advantage of the result to leap past OHA and back into second place with a 4-2 victory over Canterbury.
The Snakes were made to work hard by a Lions outfit looking to keep their finals hopes alive, and when Prue Dougan made it 2-2 halfway into the third quarter, a shock result was in play. But Ella Berresford restored the lead soon after, before Madi Clark sealed the result in the final minutes.
University also officially secured their place in the finals with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Derwent.
After last week’s crucial win over Canterbury, the Stueys continued their strong finish to the regular season and moved six points clear of the fifth-placed Lions, putting their place in the top four beyond reach with one round remaining as Essie Pelham scored twice in their biggest win of the season.
Top Three Dominate as Finals Picture Takes Shape
The top three sides flexed their muscles in the penultimate round of the Men’s Premier League season, each recording a commanding victory as the battle for the final place in the top four narrowed to two teams.
North West Graduates kept their hopes of securing the double chance alive with a dominant 8-1 victory over OHA as Ollie Stebbings scored a hat-trick.
The defeat brought an end to OHA’s late-season finals push. The Ships had produced an impressive turnaround during the second half of the campaign but were unable to claim the victory they needed to keep their hopes alive.
Minor premiers University continued their remarkable season with an 8-0 victory over Derwent, extending their winning run and adding another eight goals to their already imposing season tally with Oscar Sproule scoring his 8th hat-trick of the season, as did Tom Groom.
Derwent remain in fourth place and with a game against OHA next week, remain in the box seat for the last finals place.
DiamondBacks completed the day of dominance from the top 3, as they accounted for Canterbury 5-0 to see them remain in second place, though they face University in the final round with NWG still lurking just 2 points behind them.
