Six Tasmanians Selected In National Under 21 Squad

Six Tasmanians have been selected in the Australian National Under-21 Men’s Squad, the Burras, following the recent Under-21 National Championships in Canberra.

William Dixon, Tyson Johnson, Angus McMullen, Oscar Pritchard, Oscar Sproule and Oliver Stebbings all earned selection after standout performances throughout the tournament.

The six players played a crucial role in Tasmania’s runner-up finish at the Championships, with the side falling heartbreakingly short of gold after a penalty shootout loss to Western Australia in the final.

The Burras squad brings together many of the country’s most exciting emerging talents following impressive performances across domestic pathways and at the 2026 Under-21 National Championships, while also recognising athletes identified for long-term national team progression.

The selected athletes will now begin preparations for the 2026 Junior World Cup Qualifier, to be held in Australia in early October, as the nation aims to secure qualification for the 2027 FIH Junior World Cups.

Oscar Pritchard, Oscar Sproule and Ollie Stebbings were all part of the 2025 Burras squad and represented Australia at last year’s Junior World Cup.

This marks the second consecutive year Tasmania has supplied six players to the Burras squad, further highlighting the state’s impressive pipeline of international-level talent.
