Tasmanian Masters Shine on World Stage with Strong Medal Haul

Tasmania's Masters hockey community has enjoyed a remarkable opening week at the 2026 World Masters Hockey World Cup, with Tasmanian representatives helping Australia claim an impressive haul of medals.

The tournament, being held acrossBrasschaat (Belgium), Breda, Schiedam and Rotterdam (Netherlands), has attracted more than 400 teams from around the globe, making it the largest World Masters Hockey World Cup ever staged.

Tasmania celebrated eight gold medallists, along with silver and bronze medal success across multiple age divisions, highlighting the strength of the state's Masters hockey program.

Leading the way were Belinda Page and Lucy Withers, who helped Australia claim the Women's 45s World Championship, while David Woolford was part of Australia's triumphant Men's 40s side.

Australia also claimed gold in the Women's IMC 35s, with Sarah Gray part of the championship-winning team.

The Women's 40s side, featuring Nicole Geeves, Angela McAuliffe and Sofie McLeod, produced a strong campaign to finish with the silver medal, while the Women's IMC 45s team of Sarah Castley, Kirsten Connan, Jackie Ross and Lynette Stebbings also finished runners-up to secure silver.

Tasmania was well represented among the bronze medallists, with Sarah McRobbie and Helen Rackham helping Australia to third place in the Women's 50s competition.

The Australian Men's 35s team, featuring Gareth Hoddinott, Ian McHugh, Khan Riley and Liam Woodward, also earned bronze, while Adam Ellison and Brett Withington were part of the Australian Men's 50s side that finished third.

There was further success in the Australian Masters 2 competition, with David McCambridge claiming a silver medal as part of the Men's 35s team.

Attention will now turn to the remaining divisions, with Tasmania's Over 55 and Over 60 representatives yet to begin their World Cup campaigns.
