Tigers Name Squads For Home Opener against Perth

Eleven players set for first Tigers caps in season opener

The Tassie Tigers have named their men’s and women’s squads for Saturday’s Hockey One season opener against the Perth Thundersticks, with 11 players set to receive their first Tigers caps.

Lex Tump and Angus McMullen will make their debuts for the men, while nine players will represent the Tigers women for the first time in the double-header at the Aurora Energy Tasmanian Hockey Centre.

The women open proceedings at 2:30pm, before the men take the field at 4:15pm.

Nine new faces for Tigers women

Hannah Baxter, Yvette Biekart, Paige Blake, Georgie Carter, Holly Pearson, Camila Raposo, Sophia Schwabe, Penny Squibb and Jade van der Zwan will all receive their first Tigers caps on Saturday.

Their inclusion marks an exciting new chapter for the side, with local talent joining recruits with experience from across Australia and overseas.

New Zealand internationals Blake and Pearson and German international Schwabe feature alongside Squibb, who brings Hockey One championship experience to her first appearance in Tigers colours. Fellow internationals Yvette Biekart from the Netherlands and Argentine Camila Raposo round out the international inclusions, with Tasmanian local Georgie Carter and Hannah Baxter from New South Wales completing the 15 player squad.  

They join returning players Phillida Bridley, Taylor Brooks, Evie Dalton, Beth Dobbie, Zayna Jackson and Belle Kruimink from the 2025 side, as the Tigers prepare for an immediate test against the reigning champions.

After finishing just one point outside the top four last season, the Tigers will be eager to start their campaign strongly in front of a home crowd.

Tump and McMullen to debut for Tigers men

The Tigers Men's side will have a familiar feel to it, with 13 players returning from the 2025 side that claimed silver.

Dutch recruit Lex Tump and Australian Under 21 International Angus McMullen will make their first appearances for the Tigers men as the side begins its pursuit of another finals campaign following last season’s Grand Final appearance.

McMullen’s selection continues an exciting period for the young Tasmanian, following his recent debut for the Burras.

The debutants join an experienced group featuring Hayden Beltz, Tim Deavin and Jeremy Edwards, alongside Kookaburras Lachie Rogers and goalkeeper Magnus McCausland.

With a strong returning core and emerging talent throughout the squad, the Tigers will look to build early momentum against Perth on home turf.
