Tigers Score Big Road Wins In Adelaide

Published Sun 18 Oct 2026

The Tassie Tigers enjoyed a perfect Sunday in Adelaide, claiming a pair of emphatic victories over the Fire in Round 2 of the Hockey One season. The Women bounced back from their opening-round defeat with an impressive 5-1 win to get their campaign off the mark, before the Men produced a stunning attacking display to dismantle the hosts 9-1 and make it two wins from two to start the season.

Tigers Bounce Back With Dominant Road Victory

The Tassie Tigers overcame challenging conditions to claim an impressive 5-1 victory over the Adelaide Fire, securing their first win of the Hockey One season.

Adelaide threatened twice in the opening quarter, finding space in behind the Tigers defence, but on both occasions goalkeeper Evie Dalton stood tall to deny the hosts.

At the other end, the Tigers came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock when a goalmouth scramble following a Penny Squibb penalty corner somehow stayed out.

The Tigers were dealt a blow when Sophia Schwabe was struck in the head and ruled out of the remainder of the match with concussion.

Squibb almost gave Tasmania the lead in the final minute of the quarter, unleashing a powerful shot that cannoned off the post as the opening period ended scoreless.

The Tigers came flying out of the blocks in the second quarter, immediately threatening the Adelaide goal before Camila Raposo produced a moment of quality to open the scoring.

Getting on the end of a Taylor Brooks tomahawk into the circle, Raposo showed some slick skills to create space before finishing clinically. Adelaide goalkeeper Emily Cochrane got a piece of the resulting conversion attempt but couldn't keep it out, giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

Just five minutes into the quarter, Squibb extended the lead further, dispatching a penalty corner to make it 3-0.

With the hot conditions taking their toll, the third quarter developed into a scrappy contest as Adelaide began to work their way back into the match.

A series of cards left the Tigers defending with a numerical disadvantage, and the pressure eventually told when Eliza Pannell pulled a goal back for the hosts early in the final term.

Dalton again demonstrated her outstanding one-on-one ability, producing a crucial save from the resulting conversion attempt to keep Tassie's lead at 3-1.

The Tigers steadied, however, quickly regaining control of the contest and limiting Adelaide's opportunities to mount a comeback.

Beth Dobbie then put the result beyond doubt with a superb individual effort, winning possession high up the pitch before racing in behind the Adelaide defence and hammering home a quality finish.

Dobbie showed equal composure on the conversion attempt, patiently waiting out the goalkeeper before slotting home to complete the scoring and seal a convincing 5-1 victory for the Tigers.

Tigers Men Hammer The Fire To Make it 2 from 2

The Tassie Tigers Men then produced a stunning attacking display to dismantle the Adelaide Fire 9-1, making it two wins from two to start their Hockey One campaign.

It was a slow start that belied what was to come, with Tigers goalkeeper Magnus McCausland forced into a sharp save just 90 seconds into the contest.

The hosts then struck first after four minutes, with Mika Bottger rifling home a penalty corner to hand Adelaide the early advantage.

But just as they had done the week prior, the Tigers responded quickly. Ehren Hazell fired a penalty corner towards the back post, where Matthew Bird was on hand to deflect home the equaliser.

The second quarter saw the Tigers produce a blistering display, taking complete control of proceedings and piling on four unanswered goals.

Josh Brooks sparked the move that put Tasmania ahead, finding Keenan Johnson in space on the right. Johnson picked out Hazell's near post run, who made no mistake with his finish before converting the resulting one-on-one opportunity to extend the lead to 3-1.

With the Tigers hitting their stride, Sam McCulloch added another, finishing off a slick team move by deflecting home Hazell's delivery. McCulloch was unable to convert his follow-up opportunity, leaving the score at 4-1.

There was still time for another before the break, with veteran Tim Deavin getting a decisive touch on a penalty corner to send Tasmania into half-time with a commanding 5-1 advantage.

The Tigers showed no signs of easing off after the interval, continuing to dominate possession and create opportunities as Adelaide struggled to contain their attacking movement.

Hoey was the next to get on the scoresheet, finding himself in the right place at the back post for a simple tap-in.

Hazell then completed his hat-trick, getting on the end of a superb piece of play from Lachlan Rogers before unleashing a powerful finish.

He followed it up with an even more spectacular conversion, producing a reverse-stick strike that flew into the top corner to stretch Tasmania's advantage to 8-1.

Oliver Stebbings then joined the scoring party, drilling a penalty corner into the bottom corner to complete the rout and seal a remarkable 9-1 victory.

The emphatic result leaves the Tigers with two wins from their opening two matches and sets up a mouth-watering top-of-the-table showdown with the Canberra Chill in Hobart on Friday night.
